Focus on modern technology

Hammerfest was the first town in Norway and Northern Europe to get electric street lighting. In the report for outdoor lighting, compiled by the municipality there are clear indications of using modern dynamic control of the lights in Hammefest town. The lights should be dimmed up and down after the natural light conditions that are so far north.

Ambient lighting

The lighting system for Finduspromenden automatically regulates the light intensity and is an energy-efficient lighting system.

The luminaires have both white and yellow lights to create ambience and provide good lighting.

In the transition from dusk to daylight, the white light is used to achieve good conditions. The dynamic transition to the yellow light occurs in the evening when a more calm mood is desired on the promenade. Throughout the night, the yellow light dims into nightlight mode that ensures safety in the area.

The lighting system

In 2015, we launched our server and IoT based solution in Hammerfest. X5 Elektro, the contractor in the project, installed our gateway in the area. The gateway serves as a communication node between the control nodes and our server service in the cloud. 72 radio-based controllers were installed in the light poles to control the LED light sources with white and yellow lights.

In 2017 the system was expanded with several light poles and luminaires. Today, 82 control nodes are installed in 41 light poles.

In addition to the white and yellow light, blue lights are installed at the top of the poles to secure safety for aircraft and hellicopter traffic. The blue lights is connected to the rest of the street lighting in Hammerfest and lights up simultaneously with all other lighting.
